Car & passenger ferry from Half Moon Bay
SeaLink operates car and passenger ferry services to Waiheke Island from Half Moon Bay and to/from Auckland city. Pre book your ferry sailing to avoid disappointment.
These comfortable ferries offer the convenience of drive-on and drive-off and operate every day of the year. Most sailings depart from Half Moon Bay but they also offer a service on Friday nights and weekends from Wynyard Wharf. During peak time we recommend you book your ticket months in advance.
The ferry crossing takes approximately 45 minutes. After arriving at Kennedy Point, follow the bright blue ‘Onetangi’ signs. Turn left when you reach the beach and drive all the way down The Strand to the end of the road where you will find The Sands.
If arriving at either Auckland domestic or international airport you can take an Airbus Express into Auckland. These buses run every 10 minutes and will take you to the Downtown Ferry terminal which is the last stop.
Should you wish to take a taxi to the Ferry Terminal we recommend Discount Taxis. Phone them on 09 529 1000 to order a taxi when you arrive at the airport. You will be given directions as to where you will be collected.
Fullers also service the island with a scheduled bus which meets each of their ferries and delivers passengers to every ferry sailing.
A bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. If coming by bus, catch the ‘Onetangi Direct’ it's the number 1 or 4 Bus, get off at the last stop on corner of The Strand and 7th Ave. The bus driver will point you in the right direct to The Sands to walk the last 30 metres.
Taxi's and Shuttles meet each ferry, however during peak times we do recommend that you pre book to avoid delays.
